Volunteer Overview

Introduction for Volunteers

CCT is continually seeking qualified volunteers to serve in two primary capacities...

  • Project volunteers work within small teams on client projects that are staffed in the late autumn

  • Project managers and CCT committee members manage client projects and work within CCT's own organization; former CCT project volunteers typically staff these positions, with openings generally being filled in early autumn

Volunteer Criteria

To maintain a high level of service that CCT provides to its clients, volunteers should meet the following criteria:

  • Have an MBA degree
  • Be willing and able to make the necessary time commitment
(e.g., as a member of a project team, a commitment of 12-15 hours/month for a 4-5 month period is required)
  • Be a team player
  • Have good problem solving and communication skills
  • Be available for regular team meetings in the greater Boston area

Historically, CCT has worked with the following
business schools:
  • Darden (University of Virginia)
  • Kellogg (Northwestern)
  • Sloan (MIT)
  • Stanford
  • Tuck (Dartmouth)
  • Wharton (University of Pennsylvania)
  • Yale

In assembling project teams, CCT attempts to create well-balanced teams to ensure that clients' needs are met and that team members can meet their personal goals for volunteering, such as making a difference, expanding their skills, and having fun! When matching volunteers to projects, the following factors about a potential volunteer are considered:

  • Interests
  • Functional expertise
  • Industry expertise
  • Past CCT experience
  • Other previous volunteer/non-profit experience

Project Staffing Process

The main steps in the project staffing process are as follows:

  1. CCT notifies potential volunteers about opportunities for the next round of projects, in the fall
  2. Business schools notify their Boston-area alums about CCT volunteer opportunities
  3. CCT Volunteer Committee members contact interested potential volunteers to answer questions, collect resumes and conduct phone interviews to facilitate project/volunteer matching
  4. CCT Volunteer Committee matches volunteers to projects, and notifies them of Project Orientation time and date.

Project Cycle

All projects run from January to May/June (4-5 month duration), and include an orientation, regular team and client meetings, and interim and final client presentations. Volunteers agree to spend 12-15 hours each month on the project, for the 4-5 month period.
